I am always on the look out for evidence that the cloud is a realistic alternative so this stories of a large organisation embracing cloud technologies posted on Silicon.Com really got my attention.
JLR have been busy extracting a massive 18TB of data from exchange in a move to Google mail. Their decision to “Do something different” has meant “making the decision to migrate 14,500 staff worldwide from Microsoft Outlook to Google Mail and Calendar.
They have already taken the decision to use SalesForce.com to manage employee records and are said to be in talks regarding further initiatives.
I would love to see them succeed, and get some real life examples of companies making this all work. For me, one of the biggest challenges is getting SAAS applications from different providers to work together and with legacy systems. If JLR have made this a reality then we should all sit up and take notice.
